Blackfeet Enrollment Department
Thank you for inquiring about membership into the Blackfeet Tribe. It is very important that you understand the regulations set forth by the Blackfeet Tribe determining whether a person is eligible or not to become an enrolled member of the Tribe.
Under the Blackfeet Constitution and By-Laws Article II "Membership" and Ordinance No. 14 "Procedures Governing Enrollment", states that you must have either a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather or in the great degree, great grandmother, great grandfather and so on listed on the 1935 Basic Membership Book or what is called the Official Census Roll of the Blackfeet Tribe as of January 1, 1935.
In 1962, the eligibility requirement was changed. The Blackfeet Tribe adopted Amendment III on August 30, 1962 which required that any individual seeking enrollment into the tribe must be one fourth (¼) degree of Blackfeet Blood or more and must meet the above guideline of the 1935 Basic Membership Book for enrollment.
If you meet the above requirements and would like to apply for enrollment into the tribe, please give us a call or stop by the office for an application. Additional certified documents will be required from you as stated on the application.
If you are not sure whether you meet the above guidelines, mail us a written request so we can research your information. Include full names and birth dates with your inquiry. Note that our records only consist of members who are enrolled with the Blackfeet Tribe, therefore we cannot do research for genealogy purposes.
